ALUMINIZED GEAR FOR FIRE FIGHTERS
HEAT PROTECTIVE FABRICS
Dickson PTL provides a wide range of aluminized fabrics for the manufacturing of fire entry suits, escape or proximity gears that require the compliance of international firefighting standards such as EN 1486, EN 469, or GA634 2015. We make sure that our materials not only provide the best protection against flames and radiant heat but also the best comfort.
FIREFIGHTING SUIT – OVERVIEW OF THE MATERIALS AND STRUCTURE OF A PROXIMITY SUIT
An adequate firefighting proximity/ entry suit usually consists of multiple layers of different materials. The first layer is the outer-shell. Aluminized FR fabrics are recommended, since reflective surface is required to efficiently shield the firefighter from massive amount of radiant heat generated by fires. Then come the insulation layers, with the main function of delaying the heat penetration. Materials used can vary: heat absorbing carbon fibers, aramid felt… are often being used to block convective heat. Non-woven textures are recommended since the air trapped in between the fibers reinforce the thermal insulation complex. A moisture barrier can be added to block out hot steams. The last layer is the inner lining. Since this material is in contact with the human skin, it needs to be comfortable in addition of being safe.
COMPLIED WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS : EN 1486, EN469 & GA634-2015
Depending on the users’ requirements, fire protective equipment needs to comply with one or several safety standards in order to qualify as such. Main international standards such as EN 1486, GA634-2015 are often being used as a reference, even though other local standards exist. Our materials comply with those standards and can be used to designed category 4 personal protective equipment.
